Homewood resident and St.
Kieran alumni, Tammy Haggerty Jones received the prestigious Japan
Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Scholarship. Ms. Jones, a third grade
teacher at Strassburg School in Sauk Village, was selected from more
than 100,000 teachers across the U.S. Jones will travel, all expenses
paid, for three weeks to Japan this fall.
Established in 1996, the JFMF is funded by the Government of Japan. This
program also provides learning opportunities for American educators to
enhance their curricula by bringing students, administrators, and
communities greater understanding, respect and appreciation of other
cultures trough travel related
experiences.
In 2004, Walt Disney Worldwide Outreach honored Jones with the
DisneyHand Teacher Award. Jones was selected from more than 150,000
nominees across the country.
