Special Events for February, 2008
It is the season of hearts, flowers, and CHOCOLATE!!! There are several
reasons to celebrate this month, not the least of which is the
observance of the Feast of St. Valentine on February 14. It is also the
month of candle blessings, the beginning of Lent, the Feast of Our Lady
of Lourdes (February 11,) the month of Presidential Birthdays (Abraham
Lincoln on the 12th and George Washington on the 22nd,)
and, don’t forget, Chinese New Year! Hope you find joy in the middle of
this winter month.
We begin the month of February with our closing celebration of Catholic
Schools’ Week. To end the week, our PTN will be hosting a “Mardi Gras”
party on Saturday, February 2. Come and join us for food, music, drink,
and fun! Don’t forget the Women’s Club Fat Tuesday dinner on February
5!
Our students in the Religious Education Program will have two days off
this month. One falls on Ash Wednesday, February 6. The other day off
falls on February 27; we will be in the midst of our Parish Mission that
week and it is our hope that our catechists, students, and their
families will take time to join us for this important event.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered for the season of Lent
to our students in the school and Religious Education Program as
follows: School—Tuesday, February 12, beginning at 1:00 p.m.;
RE—Wednesday, February 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A short penance
service will be followed by individual confessions; our parish priests,
along with visiting priests from our sister parishes, will be here for
confessions. Parents and other adults are invited to participate, but
they will have to wait to go to individual confession so the children
can go first.
Baptismal preparation classes for those wishing to have their infants
baptized at St. Kieran takes place on Thursday, February 14 (Valentine’s
Day,) beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the School Conference Room. Parents
should call the Rectory Office at (708) 755-0074 to register for these
classes ahead of time.
May the light of Christ’s love lead the way for you during this holy
season of remembrance. God’s blessings to you all for a safe and
introspective observance of Lent.
