Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all of my sins because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of my love.  I firmly resolve with the help of your grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.

Amen.

Act of Hope

O my God, trusting in your promises and because you are faithful,

powerful and merciful, I hope, through the merits of Jesus Christ,

for the pardon of my sins, final perseverance and the blessed glory of heaven.

Amen

[Back to Top of Page]

Act of Love

O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all love.

I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured.

Advent Prayer

Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan you sent a messenger to prepare people's hearts for the coming of your Son.

Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak,

and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me;

Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds hide me;

separated from you, never let me be; From the evil one protect me. At the hour of my death, call me;

And close to you bid me; That with your saints, I may be, praising you forever and ever.

Amen

Apostles' Creed

We believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen

Blessing of a Christmas Tree

After you have decorated your family tree, gather your family around the tree for this blessing:

Lord our God, we praise you for the light of creation:

the sun, the moon, and the stars of the night.

We praise you for the light of Israel:

the Law, the prophets, and the wisdom of the Scriptures.

We praise you for Jesus Christ, your Son:

he is Emmanuel, God-with-us, the Prince of Peace,

who fills us with the wonder of your love.

Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we illumine this tree.

May the light and cheer it gives be a sign of the joy that fills our hearts.

May all who delight in this tree come to the knowledge and joy of salvation.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Eucharistic Devotion of St. Thomas Aquinas - Prayer before Communion

Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the sacrament of your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

I come sick to the doctor of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the radiance of eternal light,

and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord, in your great generosity, heal my sickness,

wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness.

May I receive the bread of angels, the King of kings and Lord of lords, with humble reverence, with the purity and faith,

the repentance and love, and the determined purpose that will help to bring me to salvation.

May I receive the sacrament of the Lord’s Body and Blood, and its reality and power. Kind God, may I receive the Body

of your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born from the womb of the Virgin Mary, and so be received into His

mystical body and be numbered among His members. Loving Father, as on my earthy pilgrimage I now receive your

beloved Son under the veil of a sacrament, may I one day see him face to face in glory, Who lives and reigns with you forever and ever.

Amen

Eucharistic Devotion of St. Thomas Aquinas - Prayer after Communion

Lord, Father all-powerful and ever-living God, I thank you, for even though I am a sinner, your unprofitable servant,

not because of my worth but in the kindness of your mercy, you have fed me with the precious Body and Blood of your Son,

our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that this Holy Communion may not bring me condemnation and punishment, but forgiveness and salvation.

May it be a helmet of faith and a shield of goodwill. May it purify me from evil ways and put an end to my evil passions.

May it bring me charity and patience, humility and obedience, and growth in the power to do good. May it be my strong defense

against all my enemies, visible and invisible, and the perfect calming of all my evil impulses, bodily and spiritual.

May it unite me more closely to you, the one true God, and lead me safely through death to everlasting happiness with you.

And I pray that you will lead me, a sinner, to the banquet where you, with your Son and Holy Spirit, are true and perfect light,

total fulfillment, everlasting joy, gladness without end, and perfect happiness to your saints. Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Exultet

It is truly right that with full hearts and minds and voices we should praise the unseen God, the all-powerful Father,

and his only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

For Christ has ransomed us with his blood, and paid for us the price of Adam's sin to our eternal Father!

This is our passover feast, when Christ, the true Lamb, is slain, whose blood consecrates the homes of all believers.

The night when first you saved our fathers: you freed the people of Israel from their slavery and led them dry-shod through the sea.

This is the night when the pillar of fire destroyed the darkness of sin!

This is the night when Christians everywhere, washed clean of sin and freed from all defilement, are restored to grace and grow together in holiness.

This is the night when Jesus Christ broke the chains of death and rose triumphant form the grave.

What good would life have been to us, had Christ not come as our Redeemer?

Father, how boundless is your care for us! How boundless your merciful love! To ransom a slave you gave away your Son.

O happy fault, O necessary sin of Adam, which gained for us so great a Redeemer!

Most blessed of all nights, chosen by God to see Christ rising from the dead!

Of this night scripture says: "The night will be as clear as day: it will become my light, my joy."

The power of this holy night dispels all evil, washes guilt away, restores lost innocence, brings mourners joy; it casts out hatred,

brings us peace, and humbles earthly pride.

Night truly blessed when heaven is wedded to earth and man is reconciled with God!

Therefore, heavenly Father, in the joy of this night, receive our evening sacrifice of praise, your Church's solemn offering.

Accept this Easter candle, a flame divided but undimmed, a pillar of fire that glows to the honor of God.

Let it mingle with the lights of heaven and continue bravely burning to dispel the darkness of this night!

May the Morning Star which never sets find this flame still burning:

Christ, that Morning Star, who came back from the dead, and shed his peaceful light on all mankind, your Son who lives

and reigns for ever and ever.

Amen

Glory be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen

[Back to Top of Page]

Glory to God

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to His people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you,

we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Amen

[Back to Top of Page]

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

Amen

[Back to Top of Page]

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen

[Back to Top of Page]

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, make of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made.

For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary,

and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.

On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead., and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen

And may you always be a comfort to the crying;

And may you always be a haven for the anxious.

May your life be full of Jesus and his love;

May you be God-driven by

the Father and the Spirit;

And may you be his hands and smile

and be his arms of comfort.

And may you always be his blessing to the world.

Penitential Rite

I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault,

in my thought and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do;

and I ask blessed Mary, ever Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Prayer For Our National Elections

O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord, not only of individuals, but also of nations and governments.

We thank you for your law, which our Founding Fathers acknowledged and recognized as higher than any human law.

We pray that your people may be awakened to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the world,

but rather a community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken your people to a commitment to justice; to the sanctity of marriage and the family; to the dignity of each individual

human life; and to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin, and not one moment later.

Lord, we rejoice today that we are citizens of your kingdom. May that make us all the more committed to being faithful citizens on earth.

We pray through Christ our Lord.

Prayer for Vocations (#2)

Faithful God,

(John F. Kinney, Bishop of St. Cloud - Imprimatur given May 15, 2002)

Praise to you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

source of all consolation and hope.

By your Son’s dying and rising

He remains our light in every darkness,

our strength in every weakness.

Be the refuge and guardian

of all who suffer from abuse and violence.

Comfort them and send healing

for their wounds of body, soul and spirit.

Rescue them from bitterness and shame

and refresh them with your love.

Heal the brokenness in all victims of abuse

and revive the spirits of all who lament this sin.

Help us to follow Jesus

in drawing good from evil, life from death.

Make us one with you in your love for justice

as we deepen our respect

for the dignity of every human being.

Giver of peace,

make us one in celebrating your praise,

both now and forever. Amen.

A Prayer for Healing Victims of Abuse - 2

                            www.childrenmatternetwork.org

God of endless love, ever caring, ever strong.

Always present, always just:

You gave Your only Son

to save us by the Blood of His cross.

Gentle Jesus,

Shepherd of Peace, join to Your own suffering

the pain of all who have been hurt

in body, mind, and spirit

by those who betrayed the trust placed in them.

Hear our cries as we agonize

over the harm done to our brothers and sisters.

Breathe wisdom into our prayers.

Soothe restless hearts with hope.

Steady shaken spirits with faith.

Show us the way to justice and wholeness,

enlightened by truth and enfolded in your mercy.

Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts,

heal your peoples’  wounds and

transform our brokenness.

Grant us courage and wisdom,

humility and grace,

so that we may act with justice

and find peace in you.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer to Holy Michael, the Archangel

Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you,

O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God

cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through

the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

Good St. Joseph,
spouse of Mary and patron
of all workers, pray for me.
I, too, am a worker and a spouse.
Pray for me that I may fulfill the demands of my work
and those of family life.
May I serve my employer diligently, earning his
confidence by honest effort. But may I be free from
the desire for vain praise and worldly prestige.
Teach me, too, St. Joseph, how to set aside my work
at the end of the day, and to give undivided attention
to my wife and children, that they might come to
know and love me with the love that Jesus and Mary
had for you.
O faithful spouse and worker,

pray that I may truly imitate you. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart with Your holy gifts.

Let my weakness be penetrated with Your strength this very day that I may fulfill all the duties of state conscientiously,

that I may due what is right and just.

Let my charity be such as to offend no one, and hurt no one's feelings; so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me.

Assist me, O Holy Spirit, in all my trials of life, enlighten me in my ignorance, advise me in my doubts, strengthen me in my weakness,

help me in all my needs, protect me in temptations and console me in afflictions.

Graciously hear me, O Holy Spirit, and pour Your light into my heart, my soul, and my mind.

Assist me to live a holy life and to grow in goodness and grace.

Amen

Serenity Prayer

God, grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the thing I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time.  Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace.

Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.  Trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will.

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next

Te Deum

You are God: we praise you; You are the Lord: we acclaim you.  You are the eternal Father: All creation worships you.

To You all angels, all the powers of heaven, Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

The glorious company of apostles praise you.  The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.  The white-robed army of martyrs praise you.

Throughout the whole world the holy Church acclaims you: Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship,

and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.

You, Christ, are the king of glory, the eternal Son of the Father.  When you became man to set us free you did not spurn the Virgin's womb.

You overcame the sting of death, and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.  You are seated at God's right hand in glory.

We believe that you will come, and be our judge.  Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood,

and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.

World Aids Day Prayer

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,

Oh good and gracious God, You are the God of health and wholeness.

In the plan of Your creation,

You call us to struggle in our sickness

and to cling always to the cross of your Son.

Oh God, we are your servants.

Many of us are now suffering with HIV or AIDS. We come before You, and ask You,

if it is your Holy will to take away this suffering from us, restore us to health and lead us to know You

and Your Powerful healing love of body and spirit.

We ask you also, to be with those of us who nurse Your sick ones.

We are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children and friends of your suffering people.

It is so hard for us to see those whom we love suffer.

Help us to minister in loving care, with support and patience for Your people who suffer with HIV and AIDS.

Lead us to do whatever it will take to eradicate this illness from the lives of those who are touched by it, both directly and indirectly.

Trusting in You and the strength of Your Spirit, we pray these things in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
