Did you ever wonder the reason for your being here?

In today’s passage from Ephesians Paul answers that question clearly and repeatedly. We exist for the praise of God’s glory.  Paul explains that the Father has blessed us in Christ, chosen us to be holy. He has destined us for adoption, and made his will known to us. And the Father’s will is to gather up all things in Christ and to restore creation to holiness.

Paul wants us to understand it is through the blood of Christ that we have been redeemed. We have been purchased back from the bondage of sin and sealed with
the Spirit. Through Christ, we belong to God. Even now, we are signs of the glory of God that is to come!

In the gospel, Jesus instructed his disciples to keep it very simple on their first mission.  He warned them not to worry about what to wear or eat or where to stay. He sent them out to preach repentance and to heal the sick. He gave them authority over unclean spirits. Mark reports that the mission was a success! Many demons were driven out and many sick were cured.

Jesus continues the saving work of redemption through his Church. Each Mass ends with the commission, “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord!” If we are to go out, in love to serve him, we cannot remain obsessed with food, clothes, money and friends.

We already have all those blessings and so much more!  Today we get a reality check. God made us to praise and proclaim his glory.

That is Good News, if we really believe it! How does your life proclaim the goodness and glory of God? How do you preach the kingdom of God in your life.
