In
the wake of the Holy Father’s passing and the election of the new Pope
Benedict XVI, Cardinal Francis George described the uncomfortable feeling
of the Catholic Church being, if only for a brief time, without a leader.
A ship without a rudder floats aimlessly, controlled by the capriciousness
of the elements. The new Pope must continue to proactively lead the
Church, honor the vision of John Paul II, yet define and articulate his
own dream of the future. With so many detractors and critics out there it
is a wonder why anyone would assume the mantle of leadership.
The Archdiocese of Chicago wants every school to be
Catholic, vital and excellent. Catholic schools are not learning
academies only for the superior students or private schools for those who
want elitist institutions. Catholic schools are for every Catholic who
wants their child to be educated in a faith filled environment. Catholic
Schools try to positively address every child in a kind and nurturing way.
Following the example of our savior Jesus Christ, we embrace every child
and do not exclude those that need patience, a little more nurturing or a
touch more guidance.
Catholic Schools always promote the life affirming values of Jesus
especially in a world that constantly promotes negativity and the culture
of demise. Catholic Schools are not
punitive and do not buy into the eye for an eye philosophy. The job
of Catholic Schools is to teach and prepare students to live the gospel in a
challenging world.
Excellence does not come easy. Being a Catholic is not easy. Growing,
maturing and learning are not without difficulty. It takes commitment to
God’s grace, and character and comportment as well. Community is built
on integrity, trust and concern for others. SKS knows the road to success
is indeed difficult, but with the support of our parish family the journey
becomes less of a burden. Let us pray for each other and the new Holy
Father, Pope Benedict
XVI.
