Dave Dutko

Dave and Barb Dutko have been members of our St. Kieran family for several years.  With Dave’s ordination to the Permanent Deaconate on Sunday, May 26th at Holy Name Cathedral, they look forward to an expanded role in our parish community

Dave was born and raised on the Southeast Side of Chicago where he attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and later studied for the priesthood at Quigley Preparatory Seminary. He attended Illinois State University, receiving a degree in teaching. Dave taught English and Speech at Thornton Township High School in Harvey prior to embarking on a sales career, which has spanned about 25 years. Dave enjoys fishing and playing golf in his limited amount of free time.

Barbara has spent her entire life in the Chicago Heights area, with a brief break for four years to attend Illinois State University. Barb received a degree in teaching also, and taught for six years in Steger before “retiring” to raise two daughters. When daughters Cara and Nikki entered school, Barb did the same. She changed careers and became a nurse, graduating from Prairie State University. Barb has been a Nurse Manager for ten years in Community Home Health. She is a voracious reader, reading everything from the daily New York Times to the latest best seller.

Barb and Dave met during summer employment at Green Lake in River Oaks and were married in Chicago Heights at San Rocco Church in June of 1969. During their stay at San Rocco, both were involved in various ministries including Liturgy Committee, CCD, Music, (if you attend our 12:00 PM Mass on Sunday, that’s Barb at the piano and daughter Cara singing) and Baptism Preparation.

Dave and Barb are looking forward to continuing their ministries here at St. Kieran after ordination. They are both active now in South Suburban PADS as food captains during the PADS season. Barb will also continue to be active in Music Ministry, and looks forward to expanding her role in the parish wherever she is needed. Dave is looking forward to his role as a deacon here at St. Kieran’s with a special focus on being involved with our Minister of Care program, expanding our grief ministry program, and helping Fr. Bill with the formation of a Men’s Club here at St. Kieran’s.

Dave and Barb would like to thank the entire St. Kieran Family for their support and prayers over these last four years as they made the journey to Dave’s ordination.
